Jefferson County Woman Cited for Fleeing Scene of Accident

CANOE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a Jefferson County woman is being cited for fleeing the scene of an accident that occurred early Monday morning in Canoe Township.

According to police, around 12:01 a.m. on Monday, May 27, Brandy J. Reitz, 37, of Rossiter, was operating a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling north on Dombs Hill Road just north of Canoe Ridge Road in Canoe Township.

Police say Reitz failed to negotiate a slight curve in the road and drove across the southbound lane. The vehicle the traveled off of the left side of the roadway, through an electric fence, across a ditch, and then struck a tree. It came to a final rest facing north.

According to police, Reitz then “fled the scene and went home.” Hours later, she went to Punxsutawney Area Hospital for treatment of injuries of unknown severity that she suffered during the crash and hospital staff then contacted Punxsutawney-based State Police to report the incident.

Police say Reitz admitted to having been drinking prior to the crash.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Rebuck’s Southside Towing.

Reitz was cited for failure to notify police of an accident.

No DUI charges have been filed against Reitz as of May 29.
