John “Johnny” R. Shaffer

John “Johnny” R. Shaffer, 96, of Rossiter, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

John was born to the late Levi and Ethel (DeHart) Shaffer in Reynoldsville on Feb. 12, 1926.

John was one of many children.

He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps.

John joined the United States Army in 1944 and served during World War II.

He retired from IA Construction Corporation after 23 years of employment.

John was a member of the Rossiter American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time at his in camp in Potter County.

He is survived by one brother, Gordon Shaffer of Rossiter.

While Walter Bishop, John’s best friend, was ill he asked John if he would take care of his wife and family after he passed.

Of course, John being the caring person he was, agreed to this request.

John instantly found himself with another group of people he would call family.

True to his word, John did take care of Walter’s family.

John may not have known what he was agreeing to because over the next 45 years that family sure would grow.

John was a special part of each of their lives.

Therefore, John is also survived by the following family: Walter and Jane’s five children, Jeff Bishop of Florida, Kenny (Shelly) Bishop of Punxsutawney, Becky Brickell of Rossiter, Kae (John) Shiock of Indiana, Kim (Doug) Stiver of Punxsutawney and “extra” daughter Jayne (Ron) Shaffer of Rossiter, and countless other loved ones.
