Laura Josephine (Zimmerman) McKinley

Laura Josephine (Zimmerman) McKinley, 96, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018, while resident at Laurelbrooke Landing Personal Care.

She was born April 13th, 1922, to the late Foster and Edna Zimmerman. She was married to Harold McKinley June 30, 1940, in a secret wedding ceremony in Winchester, VA. The two had three sons Edward, John, and Tom. Harold preceded her in death in December of 1986. She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church in Brookville, PA.

Laura was a long time employee of Sylvania until its closing. She enjoyed helping to organize the Sylvania Reunion. After the closing of Sylvania, Laura was an executive secretary at Alltel Phone Company until her retirement in 1982. You may not have known her phone number, but, you can rest assured that she had yours memorized.

Laura enjoyed spending time with her family, baking sugar pies, watching the Pirates, dancing at the Eagles, sitting on her front porch on Oak Street, and most of all she was a die hard 30 card bingo player. Laura also enjoyed traveling with her family; even the time she forgot her shoes on the roof of the car until hours into the trip. She attributed her longevity to a shot of whiskey a day, lots of bacon and the love of her family.

She is survived by three sons Edward (Beverly) McKinley of Perrysburg, Ohio, John (Linda) McKinley of Bear, Delaware and Thomas (Jodie) McKinley of Brookville, PA; nine grandchildren, Michael (Lin) McKinley, Heather (Kevin) Waugh, Stephanie (Corey) Smith, Tanya McKinley, Christopher (Tommi) McKinley, Nathan (Polly) McKinley, Mollie (Benjamin) Nixon, Clinton (Lynsey) McKinley, and Megan (Shawn) Smith; 22 great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Hadassah, Isaac McKinley; Hadley, Jackson, Taryn and Trygg Waugh; Jordan, Kordell, Taylor and Carly Smith; Kaitlyn McKinley, Patrick, Connor and Emily Smith; Natalie and Ethan McKinley; Ava and Ella Nixon; Evelyn McKinley; Isbea and Olena Smith.

Laura’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Laurelbrooke Landing Personal Care and In-Home Solutions Hospice. Your care, kindness, and attention over the last few years have been appreciated.
