Lewis R. McElheny

Lewis R. McElheny, 75, Punxsutawney, passed away Monday at home.

He was born in Ashville, son of the late Regis and Velma (Seymour) McElheny. He married Ethel J. Bassett on Feb. 23, 1974.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Scott (Amy) of Sykesville; a daughter, Louann Ashley (Brad) of Loudon, N.H.; four grandchildren: Cody Whelpley and Jacob, Tiffany and Elizabeth McElheny; two brothers: Alvin (Marie) of Cresson and Fred (Barb) in Florida; and four sisters: Lucy Noel of Altoona, Ruth Richard (lrvin) of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Shirley Krug (Russ) of McVeytown and Joan Racco (Joe) of Ravenna, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James.

Lewis was a 1960 graduate of Cresson High School and served as a Pfc E3 in the U.S. Army. He retired after 35 years of service as an Ironworkers Union welder for Fisher Tank in Kansas City, Kan.

Lewis was a member of VFW Post 345, Sykesville, and a Catholic by faith.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 21, 2015, at Bernard P. Snyder Funeral Home, Reynoldsville, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, by Father Richard Tomasone. Burial will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville. Military honors will be awarded by the DuBois Area Honor Guard.
