Local Couple Face Charges for Using False Name, Hindering Apprehension of Wanted Man in Punxsutawney

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Two local individuals are in hot water after they allegedly obstructed justice during an incident in Punxsutawney.

According to court documents, Punxsutawney-based State Police filed criminal charges against 43-year-old Shawn James Lydick and 34-year-old Amanda Leeann Edwards, both of Punxsutawney, in District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on March 21.

According to recently released criminal complaints, PSP Punxsutawney Cpl. Eric Stuby was requested to check a residence on Lenyok Road in Young Township, Jefferson County, to attempt to locate Shawn James Lydick around 7:40 p.m. on Friday, March 15.

It was reported that PSP Kittanning members were investigating a PFA (Protection From Abuse) Violation that occurred in their coverage area that resulted in an active arrest warrant for Lydick, the complaint states.

Troopers arrived on the scene and observed several occupants inside the residence and a female subject who identified herself as Amanda Leeann Edwards. She was informed troopers were attempting to locate Lydick to assist PSP Kittanning. Edwards related Lydick is her boyfriend, and he was working construction somewhere in the Punxsutawney area and he wasn’t at the residence, the complaint indicates.

When asked who was in the residence with her, she informed troopers that her father was the only other occupant of the residence, according to the complaint.

While conducting checks, it was determined Edwards had an active arrest warrant for a probation violation out of Indiana County. After confirming the warrant, Edwards requested to give her cell phone to “Jay Mock,” who was in the residence. At that time, PSP Kittanning Troopers arrived and informed Edwards they had an active warrant for Lydick for Contempt of Court. Edwards continued to say that “Jay Mock” was in the residence and Lydick was working in Punxsutawney, the complaint notes.

Edwards was then escorted to the front porch, at which time, a white male came to the door and identified himself as “Jay Mock.” The cellphone was handed over and troopers began transporting Edwards to the Indiana County Jail, the complaint states.

Shortly after clearing the scene, troopers conducted checks on “Jay Mock,” at which time the subject identified did not match the description. Cpl. Stuby immediately returned to the residence and the male subject greeted him at the door. After stepping onto the porch, Cpl. Stuby informed the subject that he wasn’t Jay Mock, at which time he admitted he was indeed Lydick, the complaint indicates.

Lydick told police he got scared and didn’t want to be taken into custody for his PFA Violation, according to the complaint.

Edwards informed officers that she also “got scared” and provided false information in order to conceal Lydick’s location, the complaint notes.

Lydick was charged with the following:

– False Identification to Law Enforcement Officer, Misdemeanor 3

He is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing.

Edwards, on the other hand, was charged with the following offense:

– Hinder Apprehension/Prosecution – False Info to LEO, Misdemeanor 2

She will face a preliminary hearing on April 23, at 9:30 a.m. with Judge Mizerock presiding.
