Man Charged After Friendly Wrestling Turns Into Fight Held for Court

SNYDER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A DuBois man was held for court on Tuesday on charges stemming from a friendly wrestling match that turned into a fight and left a juvenile injured.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 26-year-old Joseph Andrew Richtarsic were held for court Tuesday, June 30:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

Richtarsic is currently free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in Snyder Township, Jefferson County, in January.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on January 27, DuBois-based State Police received a report of suspected child abuse.

The complaint states that during the course of the investigation, police received photographs of a juvenile victim’s injuries from Jefferson County Children and Youth Services (CYS), which showed the victim’s face and nose covered in blood.

According to the complaint, police discovered the juvenile victim was involved in a physical altercation with Joseph Andrew Richtarsic, who lives in the same household as the victim.

The victim was interviewed on February 20 and allegedly reported that he and Richtarsic were wrestling in a friendly way when Richtarsic put him in a headlock and refused to let go, at which point the victim said everything went “downhill” and the wrestling match turned into a fight. The victim reported Richtarsic hit him in the nose while putting him in the headlock, which caused his nose to bleed.

Police then spoke to Richtarsic by phone on February 21. He allegedly agreed to an in-person interview on February 26, but never showed up for the interview.

Richtarsic was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana at 1:15 p.m. on June 15.
