Man Charged With Homicide by Vehicle While DUI Related to Clearfield County Crash

FERGUSON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Homicide by vehicle while DUI and related charges have been filed against a driver involved in a crash that occurred in Clearfield County late last year.

Clearfield-based State Police say that an investigation revealed that 29-year-old Michael Keith Rose, of Woodland, Pa., was under the influence of a controlled substance when he was involved in a crash that occurred on State Route 729, just south of Lumber City Highway in Ferguson Township, Clearfield County, around 6:50 a.m. on December 20, 2019.

Police say 31-year-old Nathaniel A. Canfield, of Curwensville, was killed in the crash.

Court documents indicate Rose was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge James Brian Glass at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1, on the following charges:

– Homicide by Vehicle While DUI, Felony 2
– Aggravated Assault By Vehicle While DUI, Felony 2
– Aggravated assault by vehicle, Felony 3
– Homicide By Vehicle, Felony 3
– DUI: Controlled Substance – Schedule 2 or 3 – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
– DUI: Controlled Substance – Impaired Ability – 1st Offense, Misdemeanor
– Involuntary Manslaughter, Misdemeanor 1
– Obedience to Traffic-Control Devices, Summary
– Fail To Keep Right, Summary
– Disregard Traffic Lane (Single), Summary
– Driving at Safe Speed, Summary
– Reckless Driving, Summary
– Fail to use safety belt – driver and front seat occupant, Summary
– Careless Driving – Unintentional Death, Summary

Unable to post $75,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, with Judge Glass presiding.
