Man Falls Asleep at the Wheel, Crashes Vehicle in Jefferson County

BARNETT TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a local man was transported to Penn Highlands Brookville after he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed his vehicle in Barnett Township early Tuesday morning.

According to police, around 5:52 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 44-year-old Jason M. Carroll, of Marienville, was operating a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse, traveling south on State Route 36 just south of Wolford Road in Barnett Township, Jefferson County.

Police say Caroll crossed over the right side shoulder of the southbound lane and struck a guide rail end.

Carroll was wearing a seatbelt. He was transported to Penn Highlands Brookville by Sigel Volunteer Fire Department and EMS for treatment of suspected minor injuries.

According to police, an interview with Carroll concluded that he had fallen asleep while driving, causing the vehicle to leave the road and strike the guide rail end.

The vehicle sustained damage to the front end, grill, and bumper. The front and side airbags were deployed. East Main Towing removed the vehicle from the scene.

Carroll was cited for a lane violation.
