Man Injured as Vehicle Slams into Tree Along I-80 in Union Township

UNION TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a man was injured when his vehicle slammed into a tree along Interstate 80 in Union Township on Sunday afternoon.

According to DuBois-based State Police, the accident happened around 4:27 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, on Interstate 80 eastbound just east of Roseville Sigel Road, in Union Township, Jefferson County.

Police say 78-year-old Steven I. Goret, of Dallas, Pa., was operating a 2017 Ford Escape traveling east on Interstate 80 when he lost control of the vehicle and went off the south side of the roadway.

The vehicle then struck an embankment, went up the embankment, and struck a tree before going back down the embankment, spinning clockwise, and coming to a final rest facing west.

Goret suffered suspected minor injuries but refused transported.

He was using a seatbelt.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene by Leadbetter’s Towing.

Corsica Volunteer Fire Company and Jefferson County EMS also assisted at the scene.
