Man Killed in Indiana County Mining Accident

Crime SceneINDIANA COUNTY, Pa. – Sources say a 29-year-old Gallitzin man was killed on Friday as a result of a mining accident that occurred at the Rosebud Heilwood Mine, located on Route 403 North, in Indiana County.

Indiana County 911 received the call around 2:10 p.m. on Friday, February 20.

According to Indiana County Coroner Jerry L. Overman, Jr., a large rock fell from the roof, crushing and entrapping Todd Trimble, of Gallitzin, as he was installing roof bolts.

According to sources, co-workers freed Trimble from under the rock and transported him to the surface.

Citizen’s Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.

Trimble was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:30 p.m.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy, according to the coroner’s office.

Pennsylvania State Police and several mining agencies are investigating the incident.
