Margaret C. “Peggy” Roberts

Margaret C. “Peggy” Roberts, 91, of Punxsutawney, died Thursday, February 15, 2018, at home.

She was born December 18, 1926, in Punxsutawney, daughter of the late Alice (Evans) and William F. Smith. Peggy was married to Frederick Roberts, who preceded her in death on June 14, 2017. She was a lifelong member of Ss. Cosmas and Damian Church of Punxsutawney.

Peggy was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy at Seton Hill and graduated from Mercyhurst School of Nursing in Baltimore Maryland.

Peggy began her career as a registered nurse at the Adrian Hospital. After raising her children, she continued her passion for nursing by working for Punxsutawney Hospital Home Health Care.

She was a member of the Irving Club, Nurses Club, Bridge Club and the P.E.O.

Peggy is survived by eight children, Patricia Kennedy and husband Bruce of Warwick, MD, Barb Haas and husband Joe of Sioux Falls, SD, Joan Beck and husband Rick of Penn Run, PA, Frank Roberts and wife Sharon of Punxsutawney, Fred Roberts of Kodiak, AK, Judy Dwyer and husband Dennis of North Potomac, MD, Julie Roberts of Wynnewood, PA, and Mike Roberts and wife Carole of Punxsutawney; thirteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous close nieces and nephews.

While Peggy was proud of all of her children, they were, in fact, extremely proud of her. She was a tremendous role model. Smart, tough, talented. There wasn’t a medical question she couldn’t answer or a school subject she couldn’t master. As a mother of eight, Peggy was indefatigable.

In addition to her husband and parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, John E. Smith.

Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, February 18, 2018, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 19, 2018, at Ss.C.D. Church with Monsignor Joseph Riccardo officiating.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney.

Memorial contributions may be made, in memory of Peggy Roberts, to Ss. Cosmas and Damian School, 205 North Chestnut Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767 or to the Punxsutawney Area Hospital, 81 Hillcrest Drive, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
