Mary Esther Kordes

Mary Esther Kordes, 81, of Waverly, OH, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2018.

She was born on April 30, 1936, to the late Francis Scott and Mary Hope (Henry) Kordes in Brookville, PA.

She was a brilliant woman who worked her entire career as a programmer for IBM. She was a pioneer of programming, involved with IBM during the ground level phases when it was still run out of a house. She retired after 23 years in 1992. She was known throughout her retirement community as a person that knew about electronics, and she became the unofficial technical support for all of her neighbors.

Her faith was very important to her and was a great strength throughout her life. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly, OH. During the decades following her fathers passing, Mary provided for and took care of her mother; she was very dedicated to her family. She also enjoyed having and riding horses.

Mary is survived by numerous cousins through the Kordes and Henry lines of her family. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by a brother, Bernard Scott Kordes, who passed away as an infant.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 129 Graham Ave, Brookville, PA, beginning at 10:00 a.m., and officiated by Father William Laska. Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Rose Township, Jefferson County, PA. No public viewing will take place.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA.
