Mathew Michael Bembenick

Mathew (Mitch) M. Bembenick, 85, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, died September 30, 2020, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pennsylvania.

Born on December 27, 1934, in Kramer, Henderson Township, Pennsylvania he was the son of the late John Stanley Bembenick and Kathryn Dzura Bembenick.

Mitch was a graduate of Sykesville-Henderson High School, Class of 1952. He moved to Mechanicsburg in 1960. During his career, he worked for the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, DuBois and the U.S. Navy Ships Parts Control Center (SPCC), Mechanicsburg. Mitch was a member of St. Joseph R.C. Church in Mechanicsburg.

In his youth, he played second base for the Kramer Mines Baseball Team. He loved hunting, fishing and taking long walks and polka dancing with his wife. Mitch was a jack-of-all trades and could fix anything. He enjoyed deer camp and a spring trout fishing trip every year with his son and extended family. He also enjoyed watching and attending Penn State football games with his daughter. Most important to Mitch was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Martha M. Murajda Bembenick; a son, Matthew Bembenick of Mechanicsburg; and a daughter, Lisa Bembenick of McLean, Virginia.

He was predeceased by four brothers, John, Peter, Chester, and Augustine (Gus) Bembenick; and two sisters, Josephine Beer and Jennie Piszker.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2020, and from 10:00am-10:30am Tuesday, October 6 at the Shumaker Funeral Home, 115 E. Union Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.

A funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at SS. Cosmas and Damian Romas Catholic Church, 616 West Mahoning Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767, officiated by Monsignor Joseph Riccardo.

Burial will take place at Adrian-Anita Roman Catholic Cemetery, Anita, PA.

Memorial gifts may be made to St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Mechanicsburg or the American Heart Association.
