Michael Albert Schiel

Michael Albert Schiel, 70, of Punxsutawney, passed away at home on Friday, December 3, 2021.

He was born in Coal Township, Northumberland County, PA, on August 4, 1951, a son of the late Marty Schiel and Alberta (Whitt) Schiel.

On December 31, 2010, he married Robin Elaine Sapolio. She survives and resides in Punxsutawney.

Mr. Schiel started as a welder at Femco machine and worked his way up into management of the aggregate department. He worked at Femco for forty plus years.

Mike was known for his loyalty, righteous outlook and indignation for those who were not treated fairly.

He always stood up for the underdog and sought what was fair and just for them.

Treating others with respect and kindness is what made him a well liked boss and co-worker.

His family and close friends truly meant the world to him, he loved them dearly.

He could always be counted on and if you were under his care “you were safe.”

Making hay was one of his favorite hobbies and he maintained beautiful fields around Schiel Scenic Acres.

His passion was hunting and fishing. He recently started horseback riding again with his wife Robin.

In addition to his wife Robin, he is survived by four children, Michael Thomas Schiel and wife Stephanie of Punxsutawney, Rachael Hannah Huey of DuBois, Haley Suzanne Liscinsky and husband Chad of Punxsutawney, and Beth Nicole Trujillo and husband Jacob of Hayden, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Jacob, Aaron and Zachary Schiel, Brent, Madison and Deagen Huey, and Hoyt Liscinsky; one sister, Dolly Pratt-Waspi of Arizona; first wife, Linda Schiel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Thomas Schiel.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be private. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery, Cloe-Rossiter Road, Punxsutawney.
