Missing Hiker Located in Sigel Area

MILLSTONE TWP. ELK CO., Pa. (EYT) – Authorities say a hiker who went missing in the Sigel area on Tuesday evening was found shortly after midnight.

A representative of Sigel Volunteer Fire Department said the hiker, a 40-year-old male from the Erie area, was reported missing by his friends who had been with him but had gone in different directions at the beginning of their hike.

According to the representative, the search began at approximately 8:30 p.m. and the hiker was found, safe and uninjured, around 12:30 a.m. near the Forest County-Elk County border in Millstone Township, Elk County.

The search was conducted as part of a joint effort by Sigel Volunteer Fire Department Station 19, Sigel Volunteer Fire Department Ward 2 Millstone Township Station 14, Marienville Volunteer Fire Company, Pine Creek Search and Rescue, and Elkland Search and Rescue.

Additionally, a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter was utilized to scour the area.

The scene was cleared around 1:00 a.m.
