Monday’s HS Baseball Roundup: Beimel No-Hits Brookville in 1-0 St. Marys Win

ST. MARYS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Needing just 60 pitches and throwing a whopping 45 strikes, St. Marys pitcher Tim Beimel tossed a no-hitter in the Dutch’s 1-0 win over Brookville at Berwind Park.

Beimel, who struck out five, only allowed two baserunners. He hit Trenton Gilhousen with one out in the third inning and Brady Caylor reached on an infield error in the sixth inning.

Beimel got 12 groundball outs and got a couple strong defensive plays from Wehler at shortstop to rob the Raiders of a couple possible singles.

Meanwhile, the lone run of the game scored in the fourth inning when Jeff Wehler singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored from third on Aaron Piccolo’s safety squeeze bunt.

Mike Beimel had two of the Dutch’s six hits off Raiders starter Aaron Park, who also threw well in a 67-pitch outing over six innings. He walked one and struck out two.

CURWENSVILLE 8, BROCKWAY 7

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Curwensville scored four times in the top of the seventh to break a four-all tie and then held off a frantic Brockway charge in the bottom of the inning to get an 8-7 win.

Avery Francisco broke the tie with a base hit to center with a second run scoring on an error on the play. Francisco then scored on a wild pitch before Ralph Evans hit a sac fly to make it 8-4.

Brockway almost tied it in the bottom of the seventh scoring three runs thanks to a Josh Johnson groundout, a Curwensville error and an RBI groundout by Matt Clark.

But Noah VonGunden struck out Andrew Trunzo with the tying run at first to preserve the win.

VonGunden, who threw 1 ? innings allowing three runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk while striking out one, also led the Golden Tide offense going 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and three runs scored.

Francisco was 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and three runs scored with Zach McClure going 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Jarrett Esposito was 1-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a runs scored to pace Brockway. Trunzo also had a double and an RBI.

Cameron Baka took the loss giving up four runs on three hits and a walk while not recording an out.

BALD EAGLE AREA 2, CLEARFIELD 1

HYDE, Pa. – Ty Walker and Trent Donley combined on a three-hitter, and Bald Eagle Area pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning to knock off Clearfield, 2-1.

Walker went the first 6 ? allowing one run on three hits, a hit batter and three walks. He struck out five. Donley came on to get the final two outs to pick up the save.

Jordan Jones doubled with one out in the seventh and scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

Tommy Hazel took the loss in relief of Jake Sorbera. Hazel gave up one run on one hit and a strikeout in an inning of work. Sorbera went six innings allowing one unearned run on three hits, a walk and a hit batter while striking out seven.

Thayne Morgan had a solo home run in the first inning for the lone Clearfield run, while Grant King had a sac fly to fourth to tie the game for Bald Eagle.

NORTH CLARION 24, FOREST AREA 0, 4 INNINGS; NORTH CLARION 16, FOREST AREA 1, 4 INNINGS

MARIENVILLE, Pa. – North Clarion outscored Forest Area 30-1 in a doubleheader sweep of the Fires at East Forest.

The Wolves won the first game, 24-0, in four innings then took Game Two, 16-1, also in four innings.

In the opener, Logan Weaver got the win going three innings with Jacob Bauer throwing an inning of scoreless relief. Logan Minich hit a home run, one of 13 North Clarion hits.

In the second game, Matson Higgins got the win in relief of Lee Seales. Both pitchers went two innings with Seales giving up the lone run.

Bryce Byers was 3-for-3 with a triple to lead the Wolves offense with Seales going 2-for-3 with a double.
