Monday’s HS Softball Roundup: Assalone Helps DCC to Win; Punxsy, Brockway Also Winners

DUBOIS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Winning pitcher Riley Assalone was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs to lead DuBois Central Catholic past visiting Johnsonburg, 7-3.

Assalone gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five.

Macy Hanes was also 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Lady Cardinals.

Madison Herzing had a two-run single for Johnsonburg and also scored a run, while Lindsey Kocjancic was 2-for-2.

BROCKWAY 15, KANE 8

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Kaitlyn Morelli and Kayla Dowdall combined to score seven runs to help Brockway to a 15-8 win over visiting Kane.

Morelli, who had two hits, scored four times for the Lady Rovers, while Dowdall, who added a pair of hits and an RBI, scored twice. Anndi Bartlett added an RBI and two runs scored for the Lady Rovers with Gabby Sabatose chipping in two hits and two runs scored.

Sadie Tunall had a two-run double and scored twice for Kane with Marcie Stanisch scoring three times and Ella Marconi getting a hit and an RBI.

PUNXSUTAWNEY 2, CLARION 0

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. – Alli Ishman and Kylee Lingenfelter combined on a five-hit shutout, as Punxsutawney beat visiting Clarion, 2-0.

Ishman started and went three innings. She allowed four hits. Lingenfelter then relieved and went four scoreless innings giving up one hit and striking out nine.

Lingenfelter was also 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Tessa Winebark was 2-for-3 as was Grace Aikens, who added an RBI.

Lindsey Kemmer went 2-for-3 for Clarion with a double. Sadie Rudesyle was 1-for-3 with a double.

Rudesyle took the loss going six innings and allowing two unearned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five. She also hit a batter.

REDBANK VALLEY 10, BROOKVILLE 0

BROOKVILLE, Pa. – Lexi Holt and Sammi Leasure both drove home a pair of runs to help Redbank Valley to a 10-0 win at Brookville.

Holt was 2-for-4 with a double, while Leasure was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Macyee Shumaker also went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for the Lady Bulldogs with Kristen Shaffer adding a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI and two runs scored.

Alyssa Burkett got the win for Redbank Valley going seven innings and allowing one hit and a walk while striking out 11.

Maggie Miller had the hit for Brookville.

OIL CITY 17, CLARION-LIMESTONE 10

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Kylee Gonzalez drove in five runs a to lead Oil City to a wild 17-10 road win at Clarion-Limestone.

In a game originally scheduled for Oil City but moved because of a playable field at C-L, the Oilers scored eight times in the top of the first to take an 8-0 lead.

But C-L fought back and was within one, 10-9, after four, and again, 11-10, after five. But Oil City tacked on two more in the sixth and four in the seventh to pull away.

Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a pair of walks and two runs scored.

Also for Oil City, Emily Goughler was 2-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored, while Maddie Ochalek was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Maddy Deemer added a pair of RBIs, as did Maddie Winger, who was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Sadie Mahle was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and two RBIs for C-L. Abby Simpson went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI with Abby Carl chipping in a 2-for-4 day with two RBIs and a run scored. Megan Stahlman added a triple and a run scored.

Goughler got the win in relief pitching four innings allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit and two walks while striking out three.

Stahlman took the loss allowing five runs, four earned, in ⅔ of an inning. She gave up one hit and walked two while also hitting two.

ELK COUNTY CATHOLIC 4, CURWENSVILLE 0

ST. MARYS, Pa. – Michelle Gerber threw a six-hit shutout to pace a 4-0 Elk County Catholic win over visiting Curwensville.

Gerber didn’t walk a batter and struck out four.

Emily Evers was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored to lead the Lady Crusaders offense. Maggie Dinsmore and Josie Smith also had RBIs.

Chloe Tubbs was 2-for-3 with a double for Curwensville.

Rachel LeGars took the loss going three innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on three hits and a walk while striking out three. Clarissa Cole threw three scoreless innings of relief. She gave up a hit and struck out two.
