Moniteau’s Kimmel Wins PIAA Girls 2A Shot Put Title

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (D9Sports) – With a throw of 146 feet, 7 inches, Moniteau’s Maura Kimmel claimed the PIAA Class AA girls’ discus title Friday morning at the PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University.

Going into her final set of throws, Kimmel was sitting in second place behind Hickory’s Tori McKinley with a throw of 140-8 compared to McKinely’s 143-6. But the Lady Warrior senior quickly turned the tables throwing 144-1 on her first throw of the finals. She then bettered that with the winning toss on her second throw of the finals.

She was one of six D9 athletes to claim a medal on the first day, all in throwing events. All of Friday’s track events were preliminary races for Saturday’s finals.

Kimmel will look to go double gold at the PIAA meet in the shot put Saturday.
