New Brockway Christmas Tree Getting A Parade

BROCKWAY, Pa. (EYT) – The tree by American Legion Post 95 in Brockway has been replaced, and Boy Scout Troop 40 wants to bring the community to its first Christmas lighting.

A parade down Main Street and tree lighting will happen in Brockway by the Legion on November 29 at 8 p.m.

“One of our scouts is really into Christmas,” April London of Troop 40 said. “He wanted a parade to the tree lighting.”

The tree by the Legion is decorated by the Boy Scouts. It serves as Brockway’s community tree. The new tree is smaller than the one it replaced, and the Boy Scouts hope it will be easier to decorate.

Of course, a tree lighting would not be complete without a visit from Santa Claus. The scouts will put on a parade, led by decorated Jeeps. One of those Jeeps will be pulling Santa’s sleigh.

“After the tree lighting, everyone can go into the American Legion for cookies and hot chocolate,” London said. “The little kids will all have a chance to sit on Santa’s lap.”

London said that the troop is looking for ways to make the scouts more active in the community. This event has two stages. The first stage is getting the tree decorated, which the Boy Scouts will do a weekend or two before the lighting. The second stage is the actual parade and lighting. The scouts will not see how the tree looks until the lighting on November 29.

“We encourage everyone in the area to attend,” London said. “The Boy Scouts are really excited to light up the tree this year.”
