Jefferson County Memorial Dedication Set for June 17

BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — The second section of the war memorial will be dedicated at the Jefferson County Courthouse on Thursday, June 17, as part of the Brookville Laurel Festival.

The monument to the county residents killed in action and missing in action during the Korean and Vietnam Wars will be named on the black granite stone. The new stone will sit to the left of the existing marker.

The center stone was dedicated in 2019 to commemorate the county’s war dead and missing in World War II. A third marker will be erected next year to honor the who lost their lives during the Cold War and the Persian Gulf War.

“We cannot thank the people who gave all their tomorrows for us,” said American Legion Post Commander Bill Littlefield.

Littlefield said the project could not have been possible without the support of the Jefferson County Commissioners and Korb Monuments of DuBois.

“The commissioners have been on board with this project from the beginning,” said Littlefield. “This series of monuments is a fitting addition to the Veteran’s Park at the Courthouse.

Vietnam veteran Herb McConnell will be the featured speaker. Littlefield, who is also a Vietnam veteran, will offer remarks on behalf of the Legion and V.F.W.

All Vietnam and Korean War veterans in attendance will be recognized. The Brookville Honor Guard will offer a rifle salute. The public is encouraged to attend.

The dedication will begin at noon at the Jefferson County Courthouse.
