Nora Lorraine Beck

Nora Lorraine Beck, 83, of (Big Run area) Punxsutawney, passed away on June 16, 2021, at Mulberry Square.

She was born in Henderson Township, Jefferson County, on February 04, 1938, a daughter of the late Mark Wachob and Elva (Reed) Wachob.

On May 25, 1957, she married Paul Beck. He preceded her in death on January 06, 2011.

Mrs. Beck attended Paradise United Church of Christ.

She worked as a sewing machine operator for Standard Pennant for many years. She later worked for JoAnn Fabric in DuBois.

Lorraine and her husband Paul were young Grangers and were very involved with the Sykesville Fair since 1963, which later became the Jefferson County Fair. Her children participated in 4-H Livestock, and she and her husband encouraged and supported their endeavors, all while helping with many aspects of fair. Her devotion to the fair lasted for many years until she was no longer physically able to be there. Lorraine was given the Ambassador Award from the fair board in recognition of the exemplary leadership, volunteerism and dedication exhibited by fair volunteers for her many years of dedication to the fair.

She was always busy at home as well, she loved to knit, sew, gardening and canning her harvest in the fall. She taught her children a lot over the years by her hard work, good deeds and kindness, she set a beautiful example for them to live by. When she was young, she helped her mother raise her six brothers, so nurturing and working hard was just in the fabric of who she was.

She is survived by one son, Mark Leroy Beck of Punxsutawney; one grandson, Andrew Logan Beck of Norvelt, whom she dearly loved; son in-law Scott McClelland of Falls Creek; six brothers, Mark “Reed” (Peggy) Wachob of Wilcox, Melvin (Donna) Wachob of Wilcox, Dorsey (Kathryn) of Punxsutawney, Earl (Linda) Wachob of Ridgway, Boyd Wachob of Reynoldsville, and Paul Wachob of Reynoldsville; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death in by her parents, her husband and her daughter, Beth McClelland.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2021, at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Big Run. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home, officiated by Pastor Barry Fillman. Interment will follow at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Winslow Township, Jefferson County.
