Oh So Close: Punxsy Golfers Fall Short of D9 2A Title by Four Strokes; 2 Chucks Make Cut

ST. MARYS, Pa. (D9Sports) – Punxsutawney just missed winning the District 9 Class 2A boys’ golf title falling four strokes short against Ridgway at Bavarian Hills Golf Course in St. Marys.

The Elkers edged the Chucks, 350-354, to win their fourth straight District 9 team title.

It wasn’t a bad day for Punxsutawney, as a pair of Chucks made the cut for Saturday’s final round, also at Bavarian Hills.

Willie Hoover sits in a 14th place tie having carded an 89 – the cut was 90 – while Lucas Ambler is in a tie for 16th with a 90.

Meanwhile, DuBois Central Catholic’s Austen Cogley is in a ninth-place tie with an 87.

In the Class 3A match, DuBois’s Drew Canter sits in a first-place tie with Bradford’s Hunter Fox with both golfers shooting an 85 Monday. Alex Graham of Clearfield is in third with an 88, and DuBois’ Joe Hnat also made the cut and is in fifth with an 89.
