Ongoing Truancy Issues Lead to Charges for Punxsy Woman

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Corruption of minors charges have been filed against a Punxsutawney woman in relation to truancy issues involving a minor in her care.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 20-year-old Breanna Lynn Behrendt.

According to a criminal complaint, on June 2, Punxsutawney Borough Police were advised by Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock that Breanna Lynn Behrendt had failed to comply with her order on truancy of a minor in her care.

Behrendt was reportedly advised of a truancy hearing in early May and was served a subpoena to be present for the hearing, the complaint indicates.

According to the complaint, Behrendt reportedly failed to arrive at the hearing and was contacted to respond to the magistrate’s office as required by subpoena. She was informed by the judge that as guardian of the child in question, she was required to make sure the child fulfilled his school obligations.

The child missed 59 days of school between February 25 and May 5, and Behrendt had failed to correct the issue of truancy and scheduling of additional required obligations for the child to complete his education, the complaint states.

Behrendt was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 9:30 a.m. on June 7 on the following charges:

– Corruption of Minors, Misdemeanor 1
– Corruption of Minors, Summary (11 counts)

She remains free on $5,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on June 30 with Judge Mizerock presiding.
