Out-of-Control Vehicle With Unresponsive Driver Brought to Rest by State Trooper in Perry Township

PERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say a vehicle that was occupied by an unresponsive driver was brought to a safe stop by a trooper on patrol at the time of the crash.

According to Punxsutawney-based State Police, the crash happened on State Route 536 in Perry Township, Jefferson County, around 7:08 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20.

Police say 49-year-old Elizabeth Spellen, of Punxsutawney, was traveling eastbound when her 2019 Chevrolet Equinox struck a deer.

Spellen’s vehicle continued approximately 100 feet eastbound before the vehicle began to drift.

Police noted that Spellen was unresponsive at this point.

According to police, a PSP Punxsutawney trooper came upon the crash scene and assisted in bringing the vehicle to rest to prevent further injury or damage.

Spellen then became responsive and was transported by Jefferson County EMS to Penn Highlands DuBois for “possible injuries.”

She was using a seat belt, and numerous airbags deployed as a result of the crash.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Smith’s Towing.
