Passenger Injured in One-Vehicle Crash on I-80, Washington Township

state_policeWASHINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) – According to DuBois-based State Police, around 10:00 p.m. on October 29, a one-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 80, at mile marker 93, in Washington Township, Jefferson County.

Police say 73-year-old Joseph A. Barbara, of Erie, was traveling west on I-80 in the left lane in a 2007 Chevrolet Express and failed to properly negotiate a right hand curve in the roadway. The vehicle left the road and traveled into the median near the entrance of an emergency crossover.

The vehicle continued traveling west for several hundred feet in the median through thick brush and struck a culvert before coming to a rest against a steep embankment within the median, according to police.

Barbara and a passenger 51-year-old Daniel l. Steen, of Erie, were using seat belts and were not injured.

Another passenger in the vehicle – a 14 year-old girl of Erie – suffered minor injuries. She was not using a seat belt.
