Pauline G. “Polly” Heilman

paulinePauline G. “Polly” Heilman, 97, of East Brady, died October 13, 2016, at New Haven Court, Butler.

Born July 7, 1919, in New Bethlehem (Armstrong County), she was the daughter of Howard F. and Helen (Doverspike) Shumaker.

Pauline graduated from New Bethlehem High School in 1937 and went on to graduate from Clarion State Teachers College in 1941. She began teaching at the Fisher Three Year High School before coming to East Brady to teach in the junior and senior high school. She completed post graduate classes at Duke University in North Carolina.

Her teaching career ended when she married Charles Heilman on March 29, 1945. She kept busy assisting him in the automobile business and being a care giver to family and friends.

Pauline was member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Brady where she was an elder, clerk of session, Sunday School teacher, on the mission committee, caring women’s society and served on the East Brady Public Library Board for 44 years.

She was a charter member of the Clarion County Historical Society and the 1955 president of the Jones Connor American Legion Post #402 Ladies Auxiliary. Pauline was also a past matron of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 230, New Bethlehem.

During the automobile business years, Charles won a number of trips where they enjoyed traveling to Rome, Aruba, Mexico City, Bermuda and Switzerland. Following retirement, they vacationed at Vero Beach, FL and Gatlinburg, TN where Charles died May 11, 1987.

Pauline is survived by her daughter Charyl Ann and husband Howard Barnhart of Chicora, 2 grandsons Dr. Todd Barnhart of Madison WI and Jason Barnhart of Chicora. She is also survived by one sister-in-law Emma Lou Shumaker of New Bethlehem as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 5 brothers Eugene, Clyde, Jay, Willard and Donald, 3 sisters Janet Carlos and husband Mart, Marguerite Marsiglio and husband Dominick and Mary Jane Everette and husband Calvin. 2 sisters-in-law Norma Bale Shumaker and Norma Gourley Shumaker.

Friends of Pauline G. Heilman will be received 2:00-4:00, 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday October 16, 2016 at Buechele Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. 707 Kellys Way East Brady, PA 16028

An Order of the Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Sunday in the Funeral Home.

Additional visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Monday October 17, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, East Brady with a Funeral Service following at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Raymond Eichler officiating.

Private burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery, Distant, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, Pauline’s family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association 110 West 10th Street, Suite 212, Erie, Pa. 16501 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
