Pedestrian Struck on Route 119, Vehicle Flees Scene

BELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 6:05 p.m. on May 14, a pedestrian was struck on State Route 119 North, 738 feet east of Rikers Road, in Bell Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 21-year-old Joshua D. Sweetland, of DuBois, was walking along the south side shoulder of SR 119 in a an eastern direction, and an unidentified vehicle was traveling eastbound on SR 119, approaching him.

Police say for an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed over the fog line and struck Sweetland in the back left shoulder with the passenger side mirror. After impact, the vehicle fled in an eastern direction on SR 119 to an unknown destination.

Sweetland suffered minor injuries.

Jefferson County EMS transported him to Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

The vehicle was described as light green in color – possibly a Jeep model vehicle.
