Penn State Battles No. 1 Duke Before Falling by 10

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Penn State played tough against No. 1 Duke before falling, 78-68, Saturday in the Hall of Fame Tip-off Tournament.

Duke used a 13-2 run in the first half to open up a 12-point, 36-24, halftime lead. But Penn State stayed within shouting distance in the second half outscoring Duke by two, 44-42, in the half.

Tony Carr led all scorers with 20 points for the Nittany Lions (2-2). He also had six rebounds and three assists.

Shep Garner added 15 points, Payton Banks 13 points and Lamar Stevens 11 points and six rebounds.

Duke (3-1) had five players in double figures led by 17 off the bench from Fred Jackson. Amile Jefferson added 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Luke Kennard and Matt Jones each had 15 points and Grayson Allen 12.
