Police: Area Man Flees Scene of Two-Vehicle Crash in Brockway

BROCKWAY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — Authorities say an area man fled the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Route 219 on Sunday evening.

According to a Wednesday report by DuBois-based State Police, the crash occurred around 8:05 p.m. on Sunday, March 31, at the intersection of State Route 219 and Elm Street, in Brockway Borough, Jefferson County.

Police say 40-year-old Douglas P. Means, of Ridgway, was traveling north on Route 219 when his 2006 Honda CRV collided with the rear end of a 2014 Dodge Caravan driven by 63-year-old Rodney R. Shofestall, of Falls Creek.

According to police, Shofestall was slowing down to initiate a right turn onto Elm Street. The vehicle stopped for a moment before initiating the turn due to a pedestrian who was attempting to walk across the crosswalk on Elm Street.

Prior to police arrival, Means fled the scene of the crash and was unable to be located.

A witness told police that Means was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to activate the brakes before impact with Shofestall’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

According to police, Means was charged with a traffic violation.
