Police Detail Van vs. Motorcycle Crash

YOUNG TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say two people were transported by ambulance following a crash involving a motorcycle and a van in Young Township earlier this month.

According to police, around 5:56 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 50-year-old William S. Harkins, of Clymer, was operating a 2014 Yamaha 1300 V Star, traveling south on State Route 119 just east of Wachob Road.

At the same time, 39-year-old Shawn W. Otto, of Kittanning, was operating a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country, also traveling south on State Route 119, in front of Harkins’ vehicle.

Police say Otto slowed to a stop for a vehicle turning left and Harkins was unable to stop and struck the rear of Otto’s vehicle.

Otto’s vehicle came to a rest at the point of impact facing south. Harkins’ motorcycle fell over and came to rest at the point of impact facing south.

Harkins and his passenger – 51-year-old Brenda J. Harkins, of Clymer – were both wearing helmets. They were both transported to Punxsutawney Hospital by Jefferson County EMS for treatment of suspected minor injuries.

Otto and his passengers – 37-year-old Jill A. Otto, of Kittanning, and a nine-year-old juvenile – were all wearing seatbelts. Another passenger, a three-year-old juvenile, was properly restrained in a front-facing child safety seat.

Otto and his passengers were not injured.

Harkins’ vehicle was towed from the scene by Rebuck’s Towing.
