Police Investigating Burglary, Assault in Mahaffey Borough

MAHAFFEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police are currently investigating an alleged burglary and assault that occurred in Mahaffey Borough late last week.

According to police, the incident occurred around 4:55 p.m. on April 29, at a residence on West Main Street in Mahaffey Borough.

Police say 42-year-old Charles Poeta, of La Jose, Pa., broke into a known victim’s residence through the front door then pursued the victim to a neighbor’s residence and proceeded to punch and kick the victim.

According to police, Poeta caused $500.00 in damage to the front door of the residence.

Court documents indicate Poeta was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge James Brian Glass at 9:45 a.m. on April 30, on the following charges:

– Burglary – Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Bodily Injury Crime, Felony 1
– Criminal Trespass-Break Into Structure, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
– Disorderly Conduct Engage In Fighting, Misdemeanor 3
– Disorder Conduct Hazardous/Physical Offense, Misdemeanor 3
– Criminal Mischief-Tamper W/Property, Misdemeanor 3
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary

Unable to post $50,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.
