Police: Punxsutawney Man Crashes in Big Run Borough After Falling Asleep at the Wheel

BIG RUN BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Police say a 79-year-old Punxsutawney man crashed his vehicle after falling asleep at the wheel in Big Run Borough on Monday.

According to police, around 2:40 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 79-year-old Gregory D. Grenier, of Punxsutawney, was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, traveling on East Main Street just east of Railroad Street in Big Run Borough.

Police say Grenier fell asleep at the wheel and drove off the right side of the roadway, causing him to side-swipe a telephone pole and then a small tree. The impact woke Grenier, however, he was unable to bring his vehicle to a stop before it struck the rear of a parked 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee, pushing the Jeep approximately 100 feet forward and out onto State Route 119. Grenier’s vehicle then struck another small tree before coming to a final rest.

Grenier was wearing a seat belt and suffered suspected minor injuries, but was not transported.

He was cited for careless driving.

Big Run Area Volunteer Fire Company and Brosius Towing assisted at the scene.
