Police: Punxsy Man Faces Charges After Scuffling With Officer at Probation Office

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Charges have been filed against a Punxsutawney man following a scuffle that reportedly occurred at the Jefferson County Probation Office late last month.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department on December 10 filed criminal charges against 26-year-old Steven D. Miller.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:45 a.m. on November 30, Punxsutawney Borough Police were dispatched to respond to the Jefferson County Probation Office on North Findley Street.

Police arrived and found a probation officer escorting a handcuffed man to his probation vehicle.

The complaint indicates the probation officer reported that the man, identified as Steven Miller was there for a scheduled meeting and to provide a urine sample. The probation officer told police that Miller had a fake urine sample strapped to his stomach.

The probation officer reported that Miller had slipped out of his coat and attempted to run out the door. The officer had then caught Miller at the door and “assisted him to the ground” where he was placed in handcuffs, according to the complaint.

The following charges were filed against Miller through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on December 10:

– Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2 (two counts)
– Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/Physical Offense, Misdemeanor 3 (two counts)
– Furnishing Drug Free Urine-Use Or Attempt, Misdemeanor 3

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on January 4, 2022, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
