Sources say a cell phone call was triangulated to the Clarion area prompting the search.

The Pennsylvania State Police along with the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office and the Crawford County Coroner continue to investigate the homicide death of 74-year-old Kenneth Halsaver, Jr., of Mercer Road, Townville, Crawford County.

Halsaver, Jr. was found in his residence deceased by a family member after not showing up for work earlier in the day on September 22nd. The victim’s vehicle was missing which was described as a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck along with the victim’s cell phone.

Investigators requested a trace of the victim’s cell phone. Later in the evening it was determined that the vehicle was traveling on Interstate 80 in Centre County, PA. Troopers from the Rockview and Lamar stations patrolled the area when the victim’s truck was spotted, and a traffic stop was initiated. The vehicle’s operator failed to stop and began a high speed chase that covered approximately 40 miles and lasted over half an hour. Spike strips were eventually deployed and the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody without further incident.

The driver was identified as 33-year-old Dustin Halsaver, who was estranged from the family and was also a parole absconder and was wanted for those violations in Pa.

Dustin Halsaver is the son of the victim.

Halsaver refused to speak with investigators and was lodged in the Center County Jail on charges of Receiving Stolen Property, Felony Fleeing and Eluding, and numerous traffic violations.

Investigators at this time are determining the circumstances surrounding Dustin Halsaver and his possible involvement in the homicide. At this point, he has not been charged with the homicide and investigators do not know if he acted alone.

This morning investigators are back at the residence on Mercer Road continuing to process the scene and gather evidence. The victim’s vehicle will be returned to PSP Corry for processing as well. An autopsy is scheduled this morning in Erie to determine the cause of death.

Further information will be released as it becomes available.
