Police Use Taser on ‘Aggressive’ Burglary Suspect

NORTH MAHONING TWP. INDIANA CO., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a Punxsutawney man is facing charges after allegedly breaking into a North Mahoning Township residence.

Troopers from the Punxsutawney-based State Police were dispatched to a residence on State Highway 210 in North Mahoning Township, Indiana County, around 9:58 p.m. on Monday, December 17, for a report of an unwanted male inside of a residence.

According to police, prior to the troopers’ arrival, the male, identified as 37-year-old Timothy Maxwell Butterworth of Punxsutawney, fled the scene in an unknown direction

Police say after the troopers canvassed the area, Butterworth was located and immediately became confrontational with the troopers.

According to police, Butterworth refused to follow verbal commands and began to aggressively approach the troopers. He was then subdued by use of a taser and then taken into custody.

Court documents indicate Butterworth was arraigned in Magisterial District Judge Guy B. Haberl’s office at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18, on the following charges:

  • Burglary – Overnight Accommodations; Person Present, Bodily Injury Crime, Felony 1
  • Criminal Trespass-Enter Structure, Felony 3
  • Terroristic Threats With Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1
  • Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
  • Defiant Trespass Actual Communication, Misdemeanor 2
  • Disorderly Conduct Engage in Fighting, Misdemeanor 3
  • Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/Physical Offense, Misdemeanor 3
  • Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary
  • Criminal Mischief – Damage Property, Summary

Unable to post $50,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Indiana County Jail.
