Portia Gucanac

Portia Van Horn (nee Gayley) Gucanac, 88, of Sheffield Village, OH, formerly of Brooklyn, OH, and Brookville, PA, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019.

She was born November 16, 1930, in Columbus, OH.

Portia was united in marriage to George Gucanac on June 9, 1960, in Cleveland, OH. She was a singer, pianist, artist, poet (published) and loved gardening in her yard.

Portia and her husband were singers. George (stage name George Grayson) was the “Frank Sinatra” of Cleveland in the 1940s and Portia wrote, directed, produced and starred in a radio show called “Invitation to a Song” broadcast from WCED in PA. She was a talented soloist for church and civic affairs and appeared on TV in Cleveland, OH, and Pittsburgh, PA. George and Portia motivated and inspired many.

Preceded in death by husband George Gucanac, and parents Dr. Howard E. and Augusta (nee Brewer) Gayley. Survivors include cousins.

Friends may call on Thursday, January 10, 2019, at The Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon, OH 44011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Prayers the following morning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, burial to follow at Elmhurst Park Cemetery.
