Driver Avoids Deer, Hits Guardrail in Perry Township

PERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – Police say a driver managed to avoid hitting a deer but ended up hitting a guide rail on Monday evening in Perry Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, around 8:55 p.m. on Monday, August 27, Robert L. Chapple IV, 22, of Erie was operating a 2007 Pontiac G6 traveling on State Route 36 at its intersection with an unnamed street.

Police say Chapple attempted to avoid a deer standing on the roadway and oversteered causing his vehicle to strike a guide rail.

Chapple was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Auto Undertakers.
