“If people would look at giving to the community as an investment in their own world, the community would be a better place to live,” said Gabler.

The Ross McGinnis Memorial Scholarship honors the memory of Knox native and Keystone High School graduate Spc. Ross McGinnis.

spc_ross_mcginnisSpc. Ross McGinnis, son of Tom and Romayne McGinnis, earned the Medal of Honor for an unbelievable act of courage and sacrifice on December 4, 2006, in Iraq, when he rolled onto a hand grenade and absorbed the blast to save four of his comrades.

The scholarships are for students who are committed to providing outstanding service to their church, school, or community.

The Honor “Service” Award recipient must have attended or currently attend a high school or post-secondary school located in one of the nine counties Keystone SMILES’ service programs are being implemented.

The Silver “Service” Award recipient must have attended or currently attend a Clarion County Public or Private School and will be enrolled in a post-secondary technical/career/educational institution to access the award.

The Bronze “Service” Award recipient must have attended or currently attend Keystone High School, Clarion Career Center or Keystone SMILES Alternative Education Program and will be enrolled in a post-secondary technical/career/educational institution to access the award.

Joyce Fosdick told exploreClarion.com, “It is always such an honor to meet supporters who help us sustain in Ross’ memory for his service to our country.”

“We thank Mr. Gabler for his generous contribution.”
