PSP Punxsy Charge Man with 90 Counts of Animal Cruelty

NORTH MAHONING TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police have released information regarding 90 counts of animal cruelty being filed against an Indiana County man.

According to a report released by Punxsutawney-based State Police, Thomas F. McDaniel Jr., 39, is accused of keeping at least 23 dogs of unknown breeds in a detached garage next to his residence along State Route 210 in North Mahoning Township.

The report states that the dogs were not permitted to leave the garage and were forced to live on top of their excrement which ranged from one to five or more inches in depth.

At this time the dogs have been removed and are being treated by the Indiana County SPCA.

McDaniel was arraigned at 8:40 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, in Indiana County Magisterial District Judge Rega’s office.

He faces the following charges:

– Aggravated Cruelty to Animals – Torture, Felony 3 (15 counts)
– Cruelty to Animals (15 counts)
– Neglect of Animals – Shelter/Protection, Misdemeanor 3 (15 counts)
– Neglect of Animals – Sustenance/Water, Summary (15 counts)
– Neglect of Animals – Vet Care, Summary (15 counts)
– Cruelty to Animals, Summary (15 counts)

A private surety posted McDaniel’s bail in the amount of $10,000.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, with Judge Rega presiding.

According to police, the investigation is continuing and more charges are expected to be filed soon.
