Punxsy Man Faces Charges for Theft of Game System

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney man is facing criminal charges for allegedly stealing and selling a game system and several games.

Court documents indicate the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 27-year-old Brandon Joseph Brady, of Punxsutawney, on June 29.

According to a criminal complaint, on May 5, a known victim contacted Punxsutawney Borough Police to report a theft.

The victim reported Brandon Brady had taken an Xbox One game system and several games that belonged to the victim while moving out of the victim’s residence. The victim stated he had messaged Brady about the items, and Brady told him he had placed them on the porch of his residence. Two days later, the victim saw the games he was missing listed for sale on the Facebook Marketplace and messaged the individual who was selling them.

The victim told police the individual selling the games stated he bought a white Xbox One and the games from Brady. The individual then offered to return the items to the victim.

Police then went to speak with the individual who had purchased the games.

According to the complaint, when questioned, the individual said that on April 27, Brady messaged him about having an Xbox One and games that belonged to his girlfriend, and they didn’t use them anymore. The individual then purchased the game system and games from Brady.

The complaint notes the individual reported that Brady then contacted him again on May 9 and told him he heard the police were involved and said he would either buy him a new game system or return his money because he sold him a stolen game system.

According to the complaint, the individual said someone then entered his apartment while he and his wife were out and had stolen the games from the living room. However, he had hidden the game system to return it to the victim.

Police then recovered the game system, and it was placed in a temporary locker to be returned to the victim at a later time.

Police contacted Brady on May 13.

According to the complaint, Brady said he spoke to the victim’s mother on May 9 and offered to buy a new game system because “he does not want any issues.” The complaint notes he agreed to come to the police station the following week for an interview, then failed to do so.

On May 20, police contacted a known woman who was staying with Brady and the victim when the theft occurred. The woman told police that Brady did take the victim’s game system and then sold it to one of his friends, the complaint states.

The game system and one controller, valued at $332 total, were recovered, but another controller and the games, valued at a total of $258.00, were not recovered, the complaint indicates.

Restitution in the amount of $150.00 is owed to the individual who unknowingly purchased the stolen items, the complaint states.

The following charges were filed against Brady through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on June 29:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 1
– Theft By Deception-Prevent Acquisition Of Info, Misdemeanor 2

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on August 6, with Judge Mizerock presiding.
