Punxsy Officer Recognized for Saving Child’s Life

punxsyPUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney Borough Police Officer has received a Letter of Commendation for saving a child’s life on September 7.

Punxsutawney Borough Police Officer First Class Frank Wittenburg received the following Letter of Commendation from Chief of Police James Borza:

Dear Officer Wittenburg:

I would like to commend you for your distinguished actions during an incident in which you were involved. On September 7th, 2015, at 0018 hours, you received a radio transmission from Jefferson County Control. County Control reported that they were sending E.M.S to an address in the Borough for an eight-day old child in cardiac arrest and that CPR was in progress.

Realizing the urgency of the dispatch, you immediately responded to the location of the incident. Upon your arrival, you were met by the child’s grandmother holding an infant. She extended her arms with the baby in them and stated, “Frank, help her.” You then took the baby from the grandmother and while supporting the child’s head, held the baby up and could hear the baby was trying to breath. While checking the baby you did not see the chest rise or feel any breaths coming from the baby. You then administered one rescue breath and light sternum stimulation until Medics arrived.

Your efforts were successful and are credited with saving the child’s life. I can imagine no greater reward than being able to avert the loss of another’s life, especially that of a child, as a result of proper conduct and training.

I am taking this opportunity to recognize your professional actions. You have not only enhanced your own image, but also that of the Punxsutawney Borough Police.

It is with great honor and pleasure that I award you the Chief’s Letter of Commendation.
