Punxsy Softball Edges Clearfield, 1-0, in Eight Innings


PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (D9Sports) – Kendal Johnson tossed an eight-inning one-hitter, and Madi Shiock scored on a two-out error on a ball hit by Abby Gigliotti in the bottom of the eight to give Punxsutawney a 1-0 win over visiting Clearfield.

Grace Aikens led off the eight with a double to center before Shiock ran for her.

Johnson hit a batter but didn’t walk anyone while striking out seven to pick up the win.

Emma Hipps gave up only two hits and the unearned run in taking the loss. She also didn’t issue a walk and struck out 13.

BASEBALL

CLEARFIELD 8, DUBOIS 0

DUBOIS, Pa. – Cade Walker tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Clearfield to an 8-0 road win over DuBois at Showers Field.

Walker walked two and struck out six. He helped himself going 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.

Harrison Peacock had two hits, including a double, two runs scored and an RBI, and Caullin Reed also had two hits and two RBIs.

CRANBERRY 16, FOREST AREA 2, 5 INNINGS

TIONESTA, Pa. – Behind three RBIs from Trevor Gladin visiting Cranberry rolled to a 16-2, five-inning win over Forest Area.

Gladin had a pair of hits in the game, including a double. Kenny Larvich also added two hits and two RBIs for the Berries.

Larvich got the win going four innings allowing a pair of unearned runs on a hit and a walk while striking out nine.
