Punxsy Teen Accused of Choking Woman, Throwing Wooden Blocks at Others

PUNXSUTAWNEY BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney teen is facing assault and related charges following an incident in which he allegedly choked a woman and threw large wooden blocks at several individuals.

According to court documents, the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 18-year-old Shawn Douglas Stormer, on June 26.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in May at a residence on West Mahoning Street involving Shawn Stormer.

According to a criminal complaint, around 8:32 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, Officer Haines, of the Punxsutawney Borough Police Department, was dispatched to the above-described location for a report of an out of control male throwing blocks at people and fighting.

Upon his arrival at the scene, Officer Haines was met by four known individuals.

According to the complaint, a known woman reported that Shawn Douglas Stormer had “acted out” and was throwing approximately 18-inch pressure treated blocks of wood at people who were in the back yard of the residence. The woman said Stormer was asked to get into a vehicle and went out of control and began throwing the blocks. Stormer also allegedly picked up a stick and threw it at a second individual.

The woman also reported that Stormer grabbed a second known woman around her throat before his father grabbed him and attempted to get him under control, and he ran from the scene.

The complaint notes the woman stated that Stormer had mental health issues that have not been treated and is in need of help.

According to the complaint, the second known woman was interviewed.

She stated that Stormer grabbed her from behind and had her in a stranglehold; she said it was hard for her to breathe. She went on to say she was also struck in the head, the complaint states.

Officer Haines observed red marks on both sides of the victim’s neck and a handprint between her shoulder blades, though the victim refused medical care at the scene.

Based on the investigation, the following charges were filed through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on Wednesday, June 26:

– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment – Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary
– Disorderly Conduct Engage In Fighting, Summary

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, July 22, with Judge Mizerock presiding.

A certified summons was issued to Stormer on June 26.
