Punxsy Woman Charged With Tampering With Child’s Medication Waives Hearing

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) – A Punxsutawney woman who reportedly tampered with her child’s medication waived her hearing in court on Thursday.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 35-year-old Sharlynn R. Steiner were waived for court on Thursday, September 3:

– Endangering Welfare of Children – Parent/Guardian/Other Commits Offense, Misdemeanor 1 (15 counts)

The charges have been transferred to the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas.

Steiner remains free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

The charges stem from an investigation into a ChildLine report initiated in June.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on June 10, Punxsutawney Borough Police received a ChildLine report stating that Sharlynn R. Steiner had been “tampering” with her child’s medications.

Police then spoke to a representative of Jefferson County Children and Youth Services (CYS) who had interviewed Steiner at her residence.

According to the complaint, the CYS representative reported Steiner was removing half of the child’s Vyvanse medication from the capsule and placing it in a separate capsule. The representative explained the medication was prescribed by a licensed physician for medical treatment. The representative said Steiner admitted to tampering with the entire bottle of the medication over a two month period.

Police then received a written statement from Steiner on June 4 stating she believed it was her right as a parent to change her child’s medication dosage, the complaint states.

The charges were filed against Steiner through Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on July 22.
