Reckless Drivers Cause Injuries, Crashes for Local Farmers

Mark Beichner, co-owner of Sandy Ridge Farms, has been experiencing unsafe driver issues for a long period of time, but he said accidents are on the rise this spring.

Beichner said people become impatient when driving behind farming equipment and pass in no passing zones. This behavior recently caused Beichner to tear his bicep muscle, and a related accident last summer resulted in a car clipping the left front tire of a tractor Beichner’s relative was driving.

“We’re out there on the road, too,” Beichner said.

“Pay attention. Be cautious. Don’t be in a hurry. We have just as much a right on the road as anyone else.”

Beichner wants to make it his mission to educate the public on sharing the road with farming equipment and other slower-moving vehicles including Amish buggies.

“Just be wary of farmers out there and traffic that’s out there because we’re all in this together.”
