Reynoldsville Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Jefferson County

HENDERSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Punxsutawney-based State Police say a fatal two-vehicle accident occurred this morning around 2:35 a.m., along State Route 119, 2/10 mile south of T-511, Hemlock Road, in Henderson Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 37-year-old Ronald Leland McCracken, of Reynoldsville, and 54-year-old Gail Marie Weinzierl, of Punxsutawney, were involved in the collision.

Police say a tan Chevrolet Malibu driven by McCracken was traveling north on SR 119 and a 2004 Chevrolet K 1500 pickup driven by Weinzierl was traveling south on the same roadway.

As the Malibu crested a hill and started to negotiate a right curve in the road, it traveled across the roadway into the south lane of travel, according to police.

Weinzierl observed the Malibu coming towards her, so she move to the right against the embankment along the west berm. The left side of the Malibu sideswiped the left side of Weinzierl’s pickup, police say.

The Malibu continued in a northern direction for approximately 2/10 of a mile before traveling off the west edge of the roadway, then it impacted a large tree located six feet west of SR 119. After impacting the tree, the Malibu spun in a counterclockwise direction and came to a final rest facing west on the south lane of SR 119, according to police.

McCracken was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder.

Weinzierl was using a seat belt and was not injured.

The Malibu sustained severe damage.

The Chevrolet pickup sustained minor damage.

Sykesville and Big Run Volunteer Fire Departments and Brosius Towing assisted at the scene.
