Reynoldsville Man Who Damaged Patrol Vehicle While Resisting Arrest Due in Court Today

REYNOLDSVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – A Reynoldsville man who allegedly damaged a patrol vehicle while resisting arrest is due in court today.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Tony Thomas Rodriguez, of Reynoldsville, is scheduled to stand for a preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, on the following charges:

– Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
– Criminal Mischief/Damage Property Intent, Reckless, Or Negligent, Misdemeanor 2

The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 6:00 p.m. on May 17 at 923 Jackson Street, Reynoldsville, Jefferson County, when an arrest warrant was being served on Rodriguez.

According to a criminal complaint, on May 17, Sergeant Murray, of the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department, received information from Chief Troy Bell that Tony Rodriguez was going to be at C.G. Johnson Elementary School.

The complaint notes that Sergeant Murray had a warrant for Rodriguez’s arrest.

Chief Bell and Sergeant Murray responded to C.G. Johnson Elementary School and made contact with Rodriguez in the gym. Sergeant Murray explained they had a warrant for his arrest.

According to the complaint, Rodriguez asked if he could finish watching his children first, and the officers agreed to wait by the gym door. However, when he was finished watching, he attempted to walk out. The complaint notes that Sergeant Murray told him to stop several times, but Rodriguez continued walking, stating he was not stopping.

Sergeant Murray then grabbed Rodriguez by the arm and Chief Bell grabbed his other arm, placing him against the wall to gain control to place him in handcuffs.

According to the complaint, Rodriguez continued to try to spin around on the officers, while expressing his anger toward Sergeant Murray for arresting him on prior occasions.

Rodriguez was then secured in handcuffs and taken to the patrol vehicle.

The complaint notes that Rodriguez continued to attempt to spin around and go after Sergeant Murray and had to be placed against the patrol car to keep him from turning around while the car was being unlocked. In doing so, the patrol vehicle was damaged.

Restitution will be due in this case for the damages to the patrol car during the struggle with Rodriguez.

Rodriguez was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana at 3:20 p.m. on Monday, May 20.

Unable to post $15,000.00 monetary bail, he remains lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.
