Reynoldsville Woman Accused of Forging Checks

REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A Reynoldsville woman is facing a series of charges after she allegedly stole several checks and then forged the victim’s signature.

Court documents indicate the Reynoldsville Boro Police Department filed criminal charges against 38-year-old Cherie A. Glenn, of Reynoldsville, on September 7.

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:43 a.m. on August 14, Chief Troy Bell, of the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department, was contacted by a known woman in reference to a theft that occurred at her residence.

The victim stated that she received a call asking her about several of her checks being passed at a local grocery store. The victim was informed that Cherie Glenn was cashing the checks.

According to the complaint, the victim stated the only way Glenn would be cashing that many checks would be if she stole them from her residence. The victim believed Glenn entered her residence while she was away and took the checks.

Chief Bell told the victim to get copies of the checks from her bank to determine dates and times of the incidents.

Around 12:03 p.m., Chief Bell contacted the grocery store to inquire about the checks. An employee informed Chief Bell that several of the victim’s checks were cashed by Glenn and provided him with video footage showing Glenn cashing checks at the counter.

Around 2:30 p.m., the victim’s husband, whose name is also on the checking account, arrived at the station. He reported a total of eight checks were forged and passed from the account and also mentioned two debit transactions that Sargeant Murray was handling separately.

According to the complaint, the victim stated that all eight of the checks listed below were unauthorized, and the bank returned the money, totaling $2361.00.

  • Check number 1483, dated 8/1/18 for $372.00, made out to Cherie Glenn
  • Check number 1484, dated 8/1/18 for $320.00, made out to Cherie Glenn
  • Check number 1060, dated 8/1/18 for $316.00, made out to Cherie Glenn
  • Check number 1485, dated 8/3/18 for $280.00, made out to Cherie Glenn
  • Check number 1411, dated 8/6/18 for $250.00, made out to a known individual
  • Check number 1435, dated 8/6/18 for $240.00, made out to Cherie Glenn
  • Check number 1434, dated 8/8/18 for $320.00, made out to Cherie Glenn
  • Check number 1433, dated 8/9/18 for $283.00, made out to a known individual

The victim also stated that neither Glenn nor anyone else had permission to be signing and passing the checks.

The victim described her signature to Chief Bell and stated that she always uses her middle initial, while also noting that her middle initial was not used on any of the eight forget checks. Chief Bell observed that the genuine signature did not match the signature on the forged checks.

The victim’s husband also provided a written statement which said that while they were away on vacation, Glenn entered their residence without permission and stole checks and an ATM card, then cashed eight checks and stole from the ATM twice for approximately $300.00 each time. He specifically stated that Glenn did not have permission for cashing the checks or using the ATM card.

Chief Bell also received a written statement acquired from Glenn through an interview with Sargeant Murray in which Glenn stated that she had a check of the victim’s which she filled out and cashed. She explained that she cleaned the victim’s residence and took several checks while she was there and then cashed them, according to the complaint.

Based on the investigation, Glenn was arrested and arraigned at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock’s office on the following charges:

  • Forgery – Unauthorized Act In Writing, Felony 2 (eight counts)
  • Access Device Is Counterfeit, Altered, Incomplete, Misdemeanor 1 (eight counts)
  • Deal In Proceeds of Unlawful Activity/Intent To Promote, Felony 1 (eight counts)
  • Theft By Deception-False Impression, Misdemeanor 1 (eight counts)

Glenn is free on $10,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 28, with Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana presiding.
