Rick’s Racing Roundup: Krummert and Flick Continue Winning Ways

After beautiful weather a week earlier, Mother Nature returned this past weekend to try and spoil everyone’s fun once again.

Despite another weekend with numerous rainouts, there were still a couple of tracks that managed to sneak in some racing over the holiday weekend.

Thunder Mountain Speedway was able to complete their second racing program of the 2019 season on Friday night.

The Memorial Day weekend started with the United States Air Force was on hand to swear in their new cadets at the track before action got underway.

In the Legends Power super late model feature, it was Chad McClelland who put on a show for the fans racing through the field to take the lead and his first win of the season over Kyle Knapp and last week’s winner Mat Lux.

Other winners at Thunder Mountain included; Andrew Gordon (street stocks), Jon Lee (semi lates), Bill Mumau (pure stocks), and Philip Bubeck in the four-cylinder class.

Thunder Mountain will be back in action Friday night with Triple Nickel Distillery Night which will feature a $3,000 to win feature for the late models. The other regular four divisions will also be in action with racing slated for 7:30 p.m.

Lernerville Speedway got their third race of the season in the books Friday night which saw track champion AJ Flick get his second win in as many weeks. After getting his first win of the season last week at Sharon Speedway, Flick would back it up with his first Lernerville win in convincing fashion to continue his hot streak.

Another driver who kept his hot streak going was Garrett Krummert. After sweeping both modified features at Mercer Raceway Park a week earlier Krummert found victory lane at Lernerville. The win didn’t come easy though as Krummert held off seven-time track champion Brian Swartzlander for his first Lernerville win of 2019.

In late model competition World of Outlaws regular Shane Clanton took advantage of a weekend off to put on a clinic as he dominated the 25-lap affair. Ryan Moyer would round out the night’s action by winning his first stock car feature of the season.

Lernerville returns to action this Friday with another Fab 4 racing program and it will also be Autism Awareness Night.

The pits were full at Sharon Speedway on Saturday before rains came and washed out action just after hot laps. Sharon will try again this Saturday where the sprint cars will return for another $3,000 to win show. Also on the card Saturday will bet the RUSH sprint cars and modifieds, the Elite econo mod series, and there will also be power wheels and bike races for the kids.

After a week off for tractor and truck pulls Michael’s Mercer Raceway will return to action this Saturday evening. A regular five-division race program will be on tap highlighted by the big block modifieds, It will also be Twin State Auto Racing Group night along with bike races for the kids.

One of the biggest races of the season will take place this weekend at Mansfield Speedway in Ohio. The second annual Sprint Car World Championship will take place this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with the winner of Saturday’s feature taking home $100,000 dollars. Last year it was Tim Shaffer of Aliquippa, a former Lernerville track champion taking home the big payday.

The big race is on Saturday but there will be plenty of action on Thursday and Friday as racers will compete in double features each night. A cool $5,000 will go to the winner of each race so look for a strong field of sprint cars each night. It was also announced that this year’s Kings Royal at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway will pay a whopping $175,000 to the winner this July.
