54f040830c0aa.image[1]Ronald E. Wachob, 79, of Mountville, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2015 at Manor Care Health Services, Lancaster.

Ron married Beverly June Birch on May 7, 1960, with whom he celebrated 48 years of marriage before she passed away on September 3, 2008.

He was born in Big Run, PA, son of the late Harry and Edith McClure Wachob. Before his graduation, he joined the PA National Guard.

During the next twelve years, he served in various locations including attending Field Artillery OCS in Fort Sill, OK. He was discharged in 1965 and remained a member of the 28th Infantry Association. Upon his graduation from Punxsutawney Area High School in 1953, he was employed by Punxsutawney National Bank, and during this time, he attended DuBois Business College. In 1963, he moved to Lancaster where he began his employment with Fulton Bank as the manager of the Mountville Branch until his retirement from banking in 1994.

Ron was a member of the Abbeyville Road Christian Church, where he served in many capacities and continued after retirement in the 4-C’s, a Christian Service Group in the church. He spent many years in service to several organizations in and around his community. He found great joy and challenge in working with the Boy Scouts of America where he served many positions over a span of 45 years. He always enjoyed the outdoor activities and traveling with the Scouts to various historic sites in several states, plus unforgettable trips to Canada and London, England. In 2005, he was honored with the Silver Beaver Award (for distinguished service to youth), recognizing his 45 years of dedication to scouting. Ron served as a volunteer fireman, first in Jefferson County; then in 1963, he joined the Mountville Fire Company and the Mountville Fireman’s Relief Association. Eventually, he also joined the West Hempfield Fire Police and was a member of the Lancaster County Fireman’s Association, Lancaster County Fire Police Association, and the Pennsylvania Fire Police Association. He was active in Mountville civic affairs including the Mountville Welfare Association, the formation of the Mountville Community Service Foundation, which enhanced the community with athletic fields, a swimming pool, and a community center converted from the old Mountville Elementary School. He also served on the Mountville Borough Authority. Ron was a member of the Mount Joy Leisure Club (seniors who enjoy good food, entertainment, and fellowship).

Ron is survived by two brothers: Elvin Roy (By) Wachob, DuBois; and Gerald “Jerry” Lee (Miriam) Wachob, Sr., Ephrata. Several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Ronald Lee Wachob and Keith Edward Wachob. One brother: Harry McClure Wachob. Three sisters: Loretta Fetterman, Anna Gertrude Soliday, and Miriam Louise Haag.

The Memorial Service will be held at Connection Christian Church (formerly Abbeyville Road Christian Church), 551 Abbeyville Road, Lancaster, on SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Emmett P. Murphy officiating. Private interment will be in McClure Cemetery, Big Run, PA.

An additional Memorial Service will be held at First Christian Church, Big Run, PA on SATURDAY, APRIL 18, 2015 at 10:00 A.M.

The Family will greet friends following the Memorial Services.
